Hong Kong is a unique place with a mixed culture.

홍콩은 혼합된 문화를 가진 독특한 장소이다.

It is a special region of China, so it follows many Chinese traditions.

But it is also influenced by Western culture.

This is because Hong Kong was controlled by England from 1841 to 1997.

As a result, the culture of Hong Kong is diverse, and the people are open-minded.

When Hong Kong was under England’s control, the only official language was English.

홍콩이 영국의 지배 아래에 있었을 때, 유일한 공용어는 영어였다.

However, many of the people in Hong Kong come from the Canton region in China.

하지만, 홍콩의 많은 사람들은 중국의 광둥 지방 출신이다.

So their language was also commonly used.

And nowadays, both Chinese and English are used as official languages.

Hong Kong also celebrates both Chinese and Western holidays.

For example, Chinese holidays such as Lunar New Year and the Mid-Autumn Festival are big celebrations for the people of Hong Kong.

But they also celebrate Western holidays such as Easter and Christmas.

Because of its history, Hong Kong follows both Eastern and Western traditions.

It has a special culture, and the people come from many different backgrounds.

Food from Hong Kong often shows its unique culture.

Cha chaan tengs, Hong Kong-style cafés, are a great example of this.

홍콩 스타일의 카페인 차찬텡이 이것의 좋은 예이다.

Because they were once under British control, people in Hong Kong started to add Western eating habits into their daily lives.

한때 영국의 지배 아래에 있었기 때문에, 홍콩 사람들은 그들의 일상생활에 서양식 식습관을 추가하기 시작했다.

However, for common workers, Western restaurants were too expensive.

So cha chaan tengs were created.

In the West, eating cake and drinking tea with milk was common.

Cha chaan tengs used these ideas to make drinks and dishes like milk tea, pineapple buns, and egg tarts.

차찬텡은 밀크티, 파인애플빵, 그리고 에그타르트와 같은 음료와 요리를 만들기 위해 이 아이디어들을 이용했다.

As the food was so cheap, these cafés became more and more popular.

음식이 매우 저렴했기 때문에, 이 카페들은 점점 더 인기가 많아졌다.

Now, some dishes are even seen as important parts of Hong Kong’s cultural heritage.
