A Day on the Ocean

바다에서의 하루

Marissa and her mom were out on the ocean with her uncle.

Marissa와 그녀의 엄마는 삼촌과 함께 바다에 나왔다.

He was a fisherman, and they were on his boat.

As they were fishing, Marissa saw a sea turtle swim toward something.

It looked like a jellyfish.

Before the turtle caught it, her uncle scooped it up with a landing net.

Later, her uncle saw abandoned nets in the water.

The animals get trapped in them and die because no one comes to retrieve the nets.

This is called ghost fishing.

After he put on some gear, her uncle dove in to remove the nets.

Marissa and her mom watched as he cut them from the coral.

Then they helped him pull them onto the boat.

Back on shore, Marissa started noticing all the trash on the beach.

Her uncle told her that the waves would carry it all into the ocean later.

So they tried to pick up as much trash as possible on their way home.

Through this trip, Marissa realized how much they needed to do to rescue marine animals.
