Diego Velázquez was a 17th-century Spanish painter.

디에고 벨라스케스는 17세기 스페인 화가였다.

One of his most famous portraits was of Princess Margarita, the daughter of the king of Spain.

The portrait is called Las Meninas, which means “the ladies in waiting.”

At that time, Princess Margarita was just five years old.

These were royal entertainers whose job was to amuse the king and queen.

More interestingly, you can see the artist himself on the left side of the painting.

He is standing behind the princess, painting on a canvas.

If you look carefully, you can see a reflection of the king and queen in the mirror on the back wall.

For this reason, some people think that he was painting the royal couple.

Others, however, think he was painting Margarita, and it was the king and queen who came to watch.

Focusing on the different objects of the painting makes the painting more interesting.
